National Board Candidate Support

The Hawaii State Teachers Association has worked to support teachers towards their certification since 2013.  The original network was started and endorsed with the support of Stacy Nishina who was then the Deputy Executive Director at HSTA.

Today, HSTA continues support teachers through their National Board journey in partnership with Kamehameha Schools.  

NEA National Board Jump Start

This is a Non-Credit comprehensive seminar designed to provide National Board candidates important information about the certification process, time to examine component and Assessment Center requirements, the opportunity to plan how to meet requirements, and time to collaborate, gather resources and information needed to pursue certification in a supportive and constructive environment. We are excited to offer an in-person session this summer!

Summer 2024 Dates:

Virtual Session

  • June 24-27: 4-8pm 

In-Person Session

  • July 12 and 13: 9am-3pm, July 14: 10am-2pm

  • Location: Oahu HSTA office

  • Light breakfast and lunch will be provided

  • Complimentary lodging available through a partnership with Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama (deadline to request lodging is April 15)

  • Participants traveling from neighbor islands are responsible for their own airfare.

Candidate Support Cohorts

These sessions are designed to help you focus on the requirements for each component and to give you support as you gather evidence and prepare to submit your portfolio for certification review.  They allow you to share ideas and get feedback from peers also going through the process. Cohorts are component specific.​

    • It is strongly recommended that candidates attend Jump Start before attempting the certification process and joining a support cohort.​

    • 24-25 Candidate Support Cohort registration will open in July
